Founded In 1977 by Alex Chueh, Ocean Alexander has matured through the years into one of the most well-known and successful Taiwan-based yacht brands. Currently operating under the direction of Alex’s son, Johnny Chueh, Ocean Alexander builds yachts from 70’ to 155’ LOA, in two distinct series, Motor Yachts and Megayachts.
(Seattle Yachts provides access to thousands of boats and yachts available on the market today. These new and used yachts for sale around the world and on the MLS may or may not be listed with Seattle Yachts, however we have the expert team on staff to help you with the purchase of any brand or type of boat.)
Ocean Alexander Yachts are known for their high styling and excellent fit and finish. Interiors are predominantly contemporary but with flashes of the more traditional woods and finishes. OA led in introducing expansive side-hull windows to excellent effect in their midship, full-beam master staterooms. And has throughout its history displayed the influences of euro-styling — without falling into the kind of design hodgepodge as have a number of Asian builders.
Innovation at Ocean Alexander, however, has been more than skin deep. For instance, a few years ago, in an interesting manufacturing reversal, Ocean Alexander began building some of its larger yachts in Merritt Island, Florida, USA.
The company has also introduced several advanced engineering approaches, for example, the use of aluminum I-profile beams and stringers, as well as carbon fiber unidirectional reinforcements to maximize structural rigidity, while minimizing structural weight.
There are currently about 130 pre-owned Ocean Alexander yachts on the world market, sized at the lower end down to 35’ LOA and built as far back as 1987. As is the case for most yacht builders, the average vessel size built by OA has increased substantially over the past two decades. However, unlike some other production builders, OA’s demonstrated its ability to transition into semi-custom yachts larger than 70’ LOA, while at the same time maintaining a level of design and construction quality commensurate with the large-yacht sector. Consequently, excellent values in pre-owned OAs can be found — if you know where and how to look.
Our Seattle Yachts brokerage team knows well where and how to find the best valuea in pre-owned Ocean Alexander yachts. A significant number of our brokers are long-experienced with the Taiwan yacht building industry, having made many trips to Taipei, Kaohsiung, and elsewhere in Taiwan on visits to the major (and not so major) boatyards there.
Moreover, our Jupiter, Florida office is less than a two-hour drive from the Ocean Alexander plant on Merritt Island, FL, where OA has its 70e in production and several other models in development at Merritt Island Boat Works.
So you can be confident that what our team presents to you has been pre-screened to meet your needs and expectations, as well as your budget. If you’re interested in an Ocean Alexander yacht, call or email us today.
